What is Artificial Intelligence?

According to the Artificial Intelligence Magazine: Becoming Human: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is “an area of study in computer science that focuses on creating computer systems that perform tasks that require human intelligence. This can include visual perception, decision-making, translation, and even speech recognition.” AI is already in many high-tech devices that we use and depend on every day, such as laptops and smartphones. Typically, this intuitive technology performs daily cyber functions, such as:
- Speech recognition
- Learning
- Planning
- Problem-solving

These AI algorithms are designed to analyze real-time data, form insights and conclusions, and simulate the cognitive thinking of our own brains, according to a 2018 Brookings article. From “smart car” technologies to robotics, artificial intelligence is helping us all achieve a better quality of life.

Now this same AI technology is being used to make hearing aids more than a hearing aid. These new AI hearing aids can monitor your health, translate languages and let you turn streaming on and off by just tapping your ear. They can detect a fall and notify a loved one. Starkey laboratories believe these hearing aids can help you live your healthiest life by tracking and measuring body and brain health.

How Can a Hearing Aid Do That?

Introducing the hearing aid of the future! These Healthables™ hearing aids are no ordinary audio enhancing devices. Created by Starkey® Hearing Technologies, Healthables actually monitor internal brain and body functions through its built-in Thrive™ Hearing app, which calibrates a combined brain and body health score (Thrive Wellness Score). This data can then be downloaded (via an Internet connection) to a computer or smartphone for easy viewing.

Introducing the hearing aid of the future – Healthables™!These are no ordinary hearing devices. Created by Starkey® Hearing Technologies, Healthables actually monitor internal brain and body functions through its built-in 3D motion sensors like an accelerometer and gyroscope. The hearing aid is then able to detect movement and gestures and give a reliable readout of your steps and activity. Paired with the Thrive™ Hearing app, which combines brain and body activity to give you a health score (Thrive Wellness Score) it will help you know if you are meeting your physical and cognitive goals.

This data can then be downloaded (via an Internet connection) to a computer or smartphone for easy viewing. Because of the integrated sensors, these hearing aids can detect when a hearing aid wearer falls and will send alert messages to selected contacts. Fall alerts help an individual maintain their independence and give family members peace of mind. Thanks to AI, these new multi purpose hearing aids can translate languages and transcribe conversations. Truly cutting edge technology!

According to Audiology Worldnews, a website devoted to the hearing industry, these Healthables models also provide an average 50 percent noise-reduction, and better speech clarity, via the units’ “Hearing Reality” technology.
